As time passes, collagen, which is the support structure of skin, is progressively depleted. This leads to the loss of skin’s elasticity, a process amplified by cutaneous dehydration. The ensuing skin sag gives birth to static wrinkles while the attenuation of muscle tissue generates areas of depressions (hollow) on the face.
Hyaluronic acid based injectable dermal fillers (Juvederm® or Belotero®) are used to restore volume to the cheek and chin areas. These products can also sculpt and reshape facial contours producing a harmonious result, which typically lasts between 8 and 12 months.
Another weapon in the arsenal is Radiesse®. This wrinkle filler is comprised of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHa, a naturally occurring mineral in the body) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier. Radiesse provides immediate volume and correction but continues to work by stimulating the body to produce its own natural collagen. This unique dermal filler’s high elasticity and viscosity allow for soft and natural facial remodelling. It provides high patient satisfaction results that last 18 months on average. Over time, the gel is absorbed and the body metabolizes the CaHa leaving behind only your own collagen.
